Football though the artists' eyes at leroy neiman gallery's

One highlight of the exhibit is a collection of paintings by former Jets linebacker Aaron Maybin, who has long been both an artist and an athlete. Other participating artists include Mike Bell, Rob Jelinski, Joanne Rafferty, Dorian Monsalve, S.k. Duff and Julie McHargue.

“This exhibit isn’t just a celebration of sport, it’s also a celebration of art within sport, and for many of our artists, it has been a case of exploring universal concepts through the medium of sport,” said leroy neiman

“I am particularly excited with the themes and ideas which have arisen as a result of this cross-pollination between the very different worlds of sport and art,” he added. “As in many cases, strange bedfellows can make for the most interesting art!”

The exhibit coincides with New Jersey’s own Super Bowl arts initiative which includes a public art project with 22 fiberglass footballs, one for each player, hidden like Easter eggs in trees around the city of Newark.
